The Space You Seek
Exploring what it means to be human
You don’t fear failure itself. You’re afraid of never actually trying. The failure to show up in your own life is what keeps you reaching for the next half-fulfilling thing, but what isn’t truly yours can never truly satisfy. It’s not uncommon. In fact, it’s what makes you human.
You do this because you think this is what it means to be alive. But a life of performance is a substitute for the life you came here to live. And you feel it.
You feel it in the strain of getting through another day, in the pressure to achieve the outward measures of success, and in the space between who you are and who you came here to be.
That space is both the reason and the answer. Not something to rush or wish away, but to sit into until you find what you came here to know.
You knew that you were more than just your thoughts the first time you did something you thought you couldn’t. You landed on the other side of reality, cracked wide open, when you set the mind aside and stepped into the experience of life — and it showed you all that could be true once you stopped believing only what was given to you.
You borrowed other people’s thoughts to create an idea about life that isn’t your own. It’s not your fault; you did what you were taught to do. But only you can change it. It’s your responsibility to choose yourself.
The trouble starts when your mind mistakes itself for the whole truth, and you perform thinking, usually someone else’s, at the expense of your own.
When you only live in your mind, life starts to lose its color. You find yourself on the outside of your own life, even one you love, watching it like a movie instead of experiencing it in the richness of real participation.
You are on a path that looks nice but doesn’t feel quite right. The feeling is the important cue that the body sends, but the mind has been conditioned to ignore it. That’s how you got here.
The first step is to admit that the next step in front of you might not actually be yours.
You might not know which way to turn next, but you can stop and let yourself stand in that space. It could be a brief space or a big one. The size doesn’t matter. It just matters that you let it exist long enough to learn from it and begin to remember who you are.
You know what it feels like to be yourself. You’ve been there before. It’s beyond the mind, that unified moment when thinking stops reaching backward or forward and simply exists with you, here, in the only place that’s ever been real: The space where you are. Unapologetic and free.
When you allow yourself that unhurried expression, something unexpected happens. The mind that once kept you small begins to expand what it believes is possible for you.
And then the space you’ve been seeking becomes the space you’re finally stepping into.
You are here to take up space. You don’t need to know what comes next, but you do need to be with who you are to take the next right step.
When you allow the space to exist, what you thought you lost returns, often transformed as a reminder of where you’ve been and how you’ve grown.
In this space, everything you thought you feared shows you how human you are for seeking.
You seek not because you are incomplete but because you are pulled to expand your capacity to hold more of what’s yours, more of what’s real. And as you seek, so you shall find much more of what is uniquely yours to keep.
